National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS)

Federal standards that set allowable concentrations and exposure limits for various pollutants. The Environmental Protection Agency established these standards pursuant to section 109 of the Clean Air Act. Air quality standards have been established for the following six criteria pollutants: ozone/smog, carbon monoxide, particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, lead, and sulfur dioxide.
